Setting goals helps to give you a final destination and time frame. Having these two elements
will help you take action during challenging times give you something to work towards.
Think of a captain of a ship. They plot out a journey with the final destination pinpointed on
the map, they calculate expected arrival time and weather forecasts and they develop a
route to destination.
They also develop a plan of action to deal with any expected difficulties along the way. A
captain (or a good one at least) wouldn’t set off on a journey without mapping out the
journey path and setting some navigation points along the way.
The same is true with your fat loss. If you’re not setting goals, then you’re not really serious
about it, there's no way to track your progress, and there’s little chance you’ll arrive at your
final destination.
Make sure you set goals that are S.M.A.R.T.
The key elements of goal setting are that goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable,
Realistic, Time Bound. Ensuring your goals follow the S.M.A.R.T format will give yourself the
best chance of achieving successful fat loss.
